Edward's Film Blog

The time has come to make a decision, and a decision I have made. Between the choice of producing a magazine and a film, the choice is easy. I have come to the decision to produce a film. A group of friends and myself have agreed to produce an introduction to a horror thriller introduction. The reason we chose horror is because we believe that it will be the best fit for the two minute timer. We will be able to create an air of suspense without the need for exposition or anything that will be unnecessarily time consuming. We have a full group of four people, and we believe will be able to recruit other friends to be used as actors. I personally am excited to try my hand at film making, and I believe that creating a suspenseful atmosphere will be an interesting and challenging task.

     Film has long been an area of fascination for me. Films such as John Carpenter's "The Thing" and Ridley Scott's "Alien" have captivated me and shown me the power that film has to portray emotions. In the past I have day dreamed of ideas I'd have to put to film, but of course I had never decided to pursue them. Many a time I would not even write them down. Now I am presented with the opportunity to try my hand at film production, and I am quite interested in it.          I do have some experience in the past in doing film related activities. In middle school i spent three years in the media production class doing small daily news reports. I've also acted on occasion for small projects my friends have worked on in the past. While I may have some experience in the area of film development, I do believe this project may be a challenge. However, it is a challenge that I welcome.

     There are a few things that interest me in making a magazine. The power that a magazine has to quickly convey a feeling or emotion has interested me for quite some time. The way in which print journalism and magazines extract truth from people has incited intrigue for me in the past. I am an ardent believer in the importance of an informed populous, and magazines and print journalism are a vital part of distributing information. For these reasons and more I am interested in the magazine production project.      Additionally, I have a multitude of skills that I think could be of benefit to me in the magazine production project. I have extensive experience in both informal and formal writing thanks to previous projects and schooling I have undertaken. Furthermore, I have practice in interview, I know the importance of silence and allowing the interviewee to talk.
